A Day in St. Andrews

Yesterday after church, Rusty and I hit the road for a little exploring. We started at Riverside Park in Perth and had a lovely little picnic (motivated by economy, more than anything else!), then we took a beautiful scenic road to St. Andrews, which is a beautiful little town on the West Coast. We got the chance to see some of it when Mom visited, but it was super cold and windy and the historic sights were closed, so we were ready to go back. Yesterday ended up being the perfect day...warm (for Scotland in February) and best of all, SUNNY!
We started at St. Andrews Castle, which is in ruins. I continue to be amazed at how beautiful and interesting these ruins can be and almost think that I enjoy them more than the intact sights! Set against the ocean, it was truly beautiful...also a little scary when we climbed down into the mine and counter-mines which were dug when the castle was under siege. Then we walked over to the Cathedral, also in ruins, but again, very interesting. The highlight was climbing St. Rule's tower to look out over the city.
Our last stop was the beach, and as you can see, it was gorgeous. It was such a great day.

So pretty! I think ruins do have a certain something about them that makes them seem so special!
