4 Weeks Down, 5 to Go

This means I am almost halfway through Couch to 5K. This week's workout was:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk, then:
  • Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
  • Walk 1/4 mile (or 2-1/2 minutes)
  • Jog 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes)
  • Walk 1/8 mile (or 90 seconds)
  • Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)
It's a good thing I found the podcast that tells me when to start running/walking, because I'm not sure I could have timed it myself!

Week 4 was hard for me. Last weekend I really started psyching myself out about running for 5 minutes. Monday I actually stopped during the 5 minute run, then started running again and made up the time. Wednesday was ok. I did my run/walk on the hotel treadmill in Oklahoma City, and it was a nice change of pace. Today was very hard though. The treadmill fan was broken and the room was stuffy and hot and I just couldn't cool down. Again I stopped but then started again and made up the time. I was grasping at any sort of inspiration I could to keep going, so I started picturing all of you who I knew might be running and it got me through. By the time I was done, I was the sweatiest I have ever been in my life. It was disgusting!!!

I'm reaching a point where I'm a bit worried about my ability to keep up with this workout, but I know that attitude won't help me, so I'm not even going to look at what's in store for next week. Each week I've been nervous about being able to increase my time and each week I've done it and the time that was scary the week before seems like nothing! SO I know it'll be hard work but I can do it and it's worth it. But for now, I'm thankful for my weekend rest days. :)

You're doing great! You're right...each week you worry and each week you DO it..keep thinking about that. It's okay to be nervous because you've never asked your body to do this before. You'll be surprised what your body can really do!!! Way to go! =)

p.s. enjoy the new shoes...i hope they help!
