Cultural Differences

In an email exchange with my mother this week, I told her to watch out for her Mother's Day card and gift, which should be arriving soon. Rusty and I have seen the signs advertising that Mother's Day is March 22nd and made sure to purchase our gifts and get our cards out in time to allow for the international postage time.
My mom commented that we were really on top of things and asked why we were thinking about Mother's Day so early. I told her a week from this Sunday really wasn't that early! She did a little "googling" and sent me this response...
"Mothers Day is a special day for honoring Mothers through out the world. The Mother's Day holds great significance for all of us. As usual, the Mothers Day 2009 will be celebrated on May 10th, 2009 in the U. S. whereas the U. K. will celebrate the Mothering Sunday (Mother's Day) , 2009 on date March, 22nd."
Apparently the US and UK celebrate Mother's Day at VERY different times! Who knew? So...Mom, Barbara...Happy Mother's Day...early.
