A Little Off Balance

A few days ago, I was getting in the car to drive to work and found myself in the passenger seat. Again. After many months of driving a car with a wheel on the right side. It really spurred me to reflect on the number of little differences that have added up to feeling just a bit off balance in navigating day to day life here in the UK. While those things have been fun and stretching, I am sure looking forward to being back in a place where I know what's what (well, usually).
In addition to driving on the right again (and sitting on the left side of the car while doing it), there are a few things I am really looking forward to: temperature in Farenheit, recipes in cups, knowing immediately when a police car is behind me and what I should do if I find myself driving by an emergency vehicle with its lights on, drying my clothes in a "tumble dryer", enormous jugs of COFFEE CREAMER!!!! (Grandma, just start filling up the fridge now!), using a "normal" house key (I still struggle using the old timey key to open our cottage.), not having to think what word to use when I want to say "cookie", "french fries", or "chips", lots and lots and lots of Mexican food...
It's hard to believe that in less than a month, we'll be back to living in the US. We've been planning our return for so long and now it's approaching in a very anti-climactic way. Rusty worked his last day today (and had a very nice send off from his co-workers at Craigdon Mountain Sports), mine's a week from Thursday. Before we know it, Mom, Dad and Grandma will be arriving for 2 weeks of fun in the non-existent Scottish sun, then it's back home on August 10.
I'm really not sure how to feel about it all. Leaving is very bittersweet. There are many friends, places, and things we will miss and Scotland will always be special. Yet I am thrilled to head back to "my own world", to be in the same time zone with friends and family, to see what God has for us there. We still don't know what life will look like for us in the US, but for now we pray and listen and wait.

I've been a little off balance since you left! Selfishly, I'm super glad you're coming back. =)

Like you, I'll be glad to "know what's what!" But of course, I will miss Scotland tremendously.

On to the next adventure huh?!
